Best wishes to Brittany in fourth grade. I loved fourth grade. My teacher
was Mrs. Forker and I thought she was the best teacher ever-kind of like
Bridgett liked her teacher in The Worst Name in Third Grade.
Mary Anne, we hope to have part of Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas up this
week for you to read. Check back.
Kevin, I didn't know about blogspot.com.
It's cool, just be careful not to put anything that tells where you live, etc.
Congratulations to Kevin on completing the Debbie Dadey summer reading. That is
awesome.
Summer is about half over-can you believe it? Yes, even though it
rained hard here I did have a nice fourth of July. We could see five sets of
fireworks from our new house! It was cool.
Best wishes for a great week,
Debbie

HELLO PHILLY! I just moved into my new house about an hour from Philadelphia. Is moving hard or what? The nice thing is that our neighbors seem very nice and friendly. I feel like I've already made new friends. The yucky thing is that I still have many many boxes to unpack. Has anyone else moved this summer? Has anyone else gone to see the new Harry Potter movie? I saw it yesterday. I thought it was pretty good.
Greetings to Becky and Kayla. Yes, Marcia is fine. I know her husband helps her with her website. I pay my wonderful webmasters, who are good friends. By the way, they are very protective of me. If they feel like someone writes something that would hurt my feelings or that is inappropriate they don't even show it to me.
Hey Natalie, I love to read too. Today I will read my advance copy of Dragons DO Eat Homework that will come out when school starts. Ruchi, I saw a bunny yesterday too. It was in my neighbor's yard and so cute. I was glad it wasn't in my yard because my dogs would have chased it. Yes, I did take a break from writing with all my moving and I am so ready to get back to it. I'm glad you liked The Worst Name in Third Grade. I like Bridgett so much. It would be fun to write another book about her. Ruchi, you might like to click on
Hi to the big travelers Amanda, Aziywsa, and Mora. Congratulations to Cailou from Canada. She is the second to tell me she finished the Debbie Dadey Summer Reading Program. That's awesome!!!! Walden, it would be so exciting to visit Serbia. I hope your school will invite me.
LOL Kevin!! As for the sneak peak, my editor just got back from a trip to Australia (maybe she saw Brenton) and should have news for me soon.
Yalini, click on http://www.debbiedadey.com/Teachers/?sid=158
to
read Gnomes Don't Slurp Spaghetti. You could even perform it with some of
your friends for a backyard play.
Best wishes for lots of summer fun,
Debbie

Wow! I'm writing this at a hotel because all my stuff is in a moving van going
to Furlong, Pennsylvania. It doesn't seem real that I'm moving, but I guess
when I'm sitting in my new house I'll believe it. I hope my kids will like
their new neighborhood and schools. It's a bit scary.
Good luck to
Reagan and Brittany in fourth grade and to Kevin!! in third grade (Hey, hyper
Kevin, thanks for the fun idea! I hope you're having a great summer.)
Isabella, you can write to me in care of Scholastic 557 Broadway NY, NY
10019. Congratulations to Vanessa for being the first to tell me she's
completed the Debbie Dadey Summer Reading Challenge. That's awesome! You are
amazing. I hope you enjoyed my stories.
A big Colorado howdy (I haven't
left yet) to Julie, Brittany, Lana, Danielle, Sanny from Korea, Pooja, Shrimp,
Amanda (and Mora?). Bannie, do you really live in a treehouse? How cool is
that?
Meg, something about me that I bet you didn't know is that I can
ballroom dance! Maybe I'll be on the next Dancing With the Stars. Ha! Brian,
I was born in Kentucky and lived there until after college.
Brenton, it's
tricky getting a script in the correct format. There are books that show how to
do it in the library and I'm still learning. You can also get the format off
the Internet. This moving to a different state has slowed down my writing so
much though that it's slow going. I'll be so glad to get settled. I already
have plans for how I want my new office to look.
Travis, I think I wanted
to be a writer because I like to read so much. Nichole, I'm sorry your school
is dull and boring. Hopefully it will be more exciting next year. Hopefully I
can visit. Best wishes. Next time I write I should be in my new house.
Take
care and read something funny,
Debbie

School's out for summer! At least it is for my kids. How about you? Greetings to Mpali from Thailand. My husband's brother used to live in Thailand. Is it summer in Thailand or is it always warm there? Do you go to school all year long? Brittany, in the summer I like to hike, write, go to the pool, and play outdoors with my kids. This summer I will be busy moving and going to Greece on a vacation. I am excited about that because I have never been there. Hello to Zoe from Bosnia, Holly, Amanda, Mora, Ruchi, Mariyam, Kevin, and Ying Shing. Good luck Kevin-take care of yourself.
Kevin!! I write the words and the publisher hires people to put the book together. The artist is actually working on the pictures for Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas right now. I do have some sketches that my editor sent me that John Steven Gurney had given her. I'll see if I'm allowed to put them on the site. Michaela, it's supposed to be out in November.
Melanie and Kevin, thanks for your birthday wishes. Now, I'm really old!! Happy birthday to Dora.
Medaya, please look in the Swamp Club for lots of information about me for your report. There's even a cool form to print off. Also, there's more info in the Events section in About Us. Ashley, look in my Events section too for information about having me visit your school, but I do have to be invited by an adult. It'd be great to visit Florida-especially during the winter! Emma, the first thing I do before writing is to brainstorm different things I could put in my story. I just say what about this, what about that and I write it all down. Then I pick the things that I think would be the most fun to put into my story.
Grace, yes I do include some fairy tale creatures in some of my stories. I do it just for fun. You can try it yourself. Pick a fairytale creature and write a whole new story for that character. (Kind of like Shrek 3.)
Katelyn, I do have three dogs. They like to snooze on the floor of my office when I'm writing stories. You may have noticed I like to put dogs in my stories. My newest book, The Worst Name in Third Grade, has a dog named Bobo in it. Have a great week, Debbie

Dear Readers,
Wow! I spent a lot of time answering snail mail fan letters yesterday. Almost half of the letters asked what was in the box in Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots. Kids wanted to know if it was really a coffin in Mrs. Jeepers' basement. I can tell you that the answer to that question is in the next Bailey School Kids book, Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas. It comes out in November.
Callie and Amy asked if I could visit their school. Of course, I'd love to do so, but I have to be invited by an adult. They can check out the event section of my site.
Ying Shing asked me if I could put a Chinese girl in a story. Ying Shing, Jeff in Ghostville Elementary is Asian, but I will certainly keep your request in mind.
Greetings to Amanda, Mora, Kasey, Danielle, Bernabe, Javon. Jodan, Griffin, Isaiah, Valerie, Brittany, Chelsie, Treasure, and Rebecca. Danielle, I'm glad you like Ghost Class. Nice to hear from Lila from France. Did you read my books in French or English?
Lis, check out my Swamp Club for information for your report. I was married 24 years ago. My mom was born in 1936 (I hope she doesn't mind me telling). My oldest son is 20. My first book came out in 1990. Wyatt, I've written 132 books. Wyatt, I just made up the name Bridgett Butt in The Worst Name in Third Grade, although people do have that last name. How would you like to have that name?
Briana and Caitlin, I'm glad you like my books. Sienna, good luck with your writing. Kevin, keep up the awesome reading. Immanuel, maybe you can ask your librarian to get more of my books.
Caroline, happy sweet 16!
Jocelyn, I can't tell you what the sound is from Whistler's Hollow, but I can tell you that it really happened. I hope you read the book.
Yes, Brielle I still plan to write when I move. That may be quicker than I thought if all works out well.
On Friday, I'm excited to be visiting Garfield School in Loveland, Colorado. Isn't that a nice name? Loveland? It's definitely not the worst name in third grade!
I had something happen to me this week that reminded me of the power of prayer. If you have something hard in your life, you might want to try it.
Take care and be at peace with the universe,
Debbie
