Thanks for the fun idea Amelie and thanks to Kasey for the suggestion of visitng schools.  Actually, I am visiting quite a few schools in 2008.  It'll be fun.  Tkeijah, you can look on the Swamp Club page for stuff about me for your book report, there's even a book report form to help you out.  Hi to Alex (who I have a sneaking feeling I might know personally).

WhatsInTheBox Tia, Avery, Leslie, Kasey, and Haley-you guys rock!  Kayla, Kim, Aladrian, and Kevin!! had good guesses (Kevin, I got a laugh out of your suggestion).  I'll let you know if you're right after Christmas.  Of course, if you can't wait you can read Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas, but don't tell anyone the answer!

Meanwhile, have a great Thanksgiving.  Stay safe and God bless, Debbie

Thanks for writing everyone!  Cecelia, Taylor, Caira, and Katelynn, I'm glad you like my books.  MartiansDontTakeTempKatie, it's so funny that you saw a lady who looked like Nurse Redding at your church.  CLICK HERE to check this out in the Swamp Club  where it shows how the original BSK illustrator got his ideas for the covers.  If you live in Vermont where John Steven Gurney lives, it really could be the same lady!  Jesse, Bridgett Butt is just a name I made up.

A special thanks to Mrs. Newcomer and her 21 fourth grade students (especially Gabby and Kim) who voted for Snow Monsters Do Drink Hot Chocolate.    Yes, it is a new series called The Bailey School Kids Junior Chapter books.  You can see all the titles  - click here to see my book section .  In second grade in KY. I had a second grade teacher named Mrs. Newcomer!  Thanks to Kayla, Tara and Tammy too.  It would be fun to put Boris and Kilmer back in a story.  Natalie, I have lots of favorites, but Skeletons Don't Play Tubas is one of them.

Hi Thalia, I'm glad you liked the Worst Name in Third Grade.  Good luck to Tani with your story.  The title made we wonder what would happen.  Hi to Deja, Dede (did you know that was the first teacher in Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots?), Makayla from Bowie, Nima, and Erica.  Yes, Kayla, I am writing the junior chapter book series with Marcia Jones.

soccer Hello to my lovely daughter who was probably supposed to be doing science when she wrote me.  Did everyone know that
she is an awesome soccer player?  My daughter is also great at guitar,
which is the reason I  liked Kevin!!'s idea for a new book.
Darien and Ethan, your ideas rocked too.  I'm putting them
in my idea file and hope I get to make them.

Adam, I hope you liked Sea Serpents Don't Juggle Water Balloons.  My daughter's picture is in that book.   Lisa and Jenn, guess what?  They are making a play of some of the Bailey SchoolNinjasDontBakePumpkinPies Kids books.  I'm sure it will take a while, but I'm excited about it.

Erica, Marcia and I are working on a harder series.  I think it will be a lot of fun.  Meanwhile, I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving, eat lots of turkey, read bunches of books, and maybe even write your own story.  We always need more Thanksgiving books.  Two of my favorites are Ninjas Don't Bake Pumpkin Pie and Wizards Do Roast Turkeys.

MonsterSled So which do you like better?  Snow Monsters DO Go Sledding or
Snow Monsters DO Drink Hot Chocolate?  HotChocolate
My next book could depend on your answer!

Hi to Amanda, Mora, Zulma, Alexis, Erica, and Regina.  Guess what Alexis, I can't spell very well either!  Alexis, I had fun at Bowie.  You have a cool school.  Natalie, I think I am probably most like Eddie and Melody.

Greetings to The Girls Book Club (Amanda, Holly, Stephanie, and Erin).  I think it is so cool that you have your own book club.  Most of the time I don't believe in ghosts, but every once in a while (when it's dark and there's a funny noise-then I'm not so sure!).

Mike, Ryan, and Aaron-I have been on a few author's tours and I do visit schools and bookstores.  In fact, tomorrow I am visiting a school in Virgina with Marcia Jones.

Thanks to Cameron, Brenton from OZ, Jasmine, Kayla, and Hannah for your awesome ideas.  Brenton, I really do want to make a writing section for my website.  I guess that will be my new year's resolution!

Cory, there are 51 numbered BSK books, but there are a bunch of super specials and holiday specials.  You can see them all at  the book section of my website .  Emily amd Torrie, I get inspiration from everywhere for writing.  The idea for Bigfoot Doesn't Square Dance came from the newspaper!  Destine, I like Hannah Montana too.  Zac, I have lots of favorites.  How about you?

David, the next book I'm writing will be a snow monster book.  Dylan from Bowie, you sound like an awesome writer.  I'll probably be reading your books someday.  Alexis, I'm glad you liked the Worst Name in Third Grade .  Mikaela from Bowie, you may be right about Mrs. Zork.  Rebekah from Bowie, thanks for writing such nice words.  Regina and Rysa, you rock too!

Marie, I'd love to write more Bridgett Butt books.  You can write my editor at Make More Bridgett Butt Books Scholastic 557 Broadway New York, NY 10012 and ask for more.  Kevin!  you can write to the same address for more Swamp Monster books.  I had just sent my editor ideas for #5 and #6.  We'll see what happens.  Mehar, I wrote Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots in 2 weeks.  Cherokee Sister took me 8 years to write!  Dylan, it's cool that you like Slime Wars.  Did you know I wrote it with my son?

Jesse, I'm sorry you have trouble with subjects and predicates.  Your teacher can help you more, but a subject is usually a person, place, or thing that the sentence is about.  The predicate is usually the action part of the sentence or the verb.  Hope that helps.

Regina and Brenton from Oz, what shall we write about?  Angie, I love reading kid's books too.  They are so fun.  Alyson, you can find out about me on the Swamp page.  Taylor, I have only one word for you-READ!  gtg, Debbie

Wow!  Shame on me for not writing sooner.  I guess my only excuse it that I was finishing a book about cavemen.  I had to rewrite it because my editor didn't like it the first time.  I actually liked parts of it better the first time, but she's my boss!  I think it did turn out to be lots of fun.  It will come out next year.

Skylar, I love your way with words.  Sugar, if you get your class to enter my contest you can win a book and an autograph.  But Juls, if your teacher won't particpate you can send in your own.  Mayum and Tail, I do have three kids as my daughter Becky told you.  If you, Zac, Darby, Lisa, and Karli want more information you can check out the Swamp Club.  There's a section there to help people with BOOK REPORTS (click here! and here! ).  Zac, I'm not sure why I've always liked the color blue.  I think it's because it is very calming.  Right now, my office is that color.  (yes, Caroline that wacky girl named Becky is really my wonderful daughter.)

Sara, I'm glad you are enjoying Ghostville Elementary3gIsn't this a great time
of the year to read a ghost book? I hope you don't get too scared!
Casandra, I'm so happy that you liked The Worst Name in Third Grade.  You might want to check out Bridgett's blog on the Swamp Club.  I think she's posting a new entry today.

Marissa, a BSK movie would be so cool.  TheatreWorks is currently buying the rights to make the Bailey School Kids books into a play, which could be so fun.

Greetings to Taylor, Montserrat, Monique, Domonique, Andrew, Karen, James, Jasmine, Curtisia, Victoria, and Samantha.  Thanks for writing and let me know if there's something you'd like on my website.  I love new ideas.   Ha, ha to Becky and Alex for writing in.  You are so funny!

Danielle and Natalie, it will be cool to meet you in April.  Mrs. Goforth's class from Johnson Elementary, thanks for the postcard.  I've written about 139 books.  I write because I love to have adventures and I love to daydream.  I can do both on paper and share them with other people.  Happy Birthday to Lindsey!  Miracle, your name is neat.  And, of course, Bailey, I do love your name.

Kasey, I wish I had some magic advice for Middle School.  Sometimes it can be hard.  (I know I went to Middle school myself).  I will tell you a secret though.  Everyone, and I do mean everyone in Middle School, are pretty much unsure of themselves.  Some people act cool, but underneath we're all the same-even as grown-ups.  Just have fun and don't worry about kids who act like they're better than everyone else.

Kevin!! thanks for your fun idea.  I love it.  I hope I'll get to write another Swamp Monster in Third Grade book.  Do you think I should?

Emily, the idea for the Monsters Next Door actually came from my Scholastic editor.  She wanted a spin-off series of the Bailey School Kids books so Marcia Jones and I thought it would be cool if there really was a family of monsters living in Bailey City.  The names all came from a baby book of names.  It's a great way to find hundreds of names.  We just looked for names we thought sounded like our characters.  Isn't Kilmer a great name for a young Frankenstein?

Brenton, my BSK outlines are usually very brief with just a sentence or two about what happens in each chapter.  When I get the book that's dedicated to you I will send it to you.  I have your snail mail from when your wrote me by regular mail.

Wow, I think that's the longest I've ever written on Debbie Talks!  Thanks for writing and I hope you have a great October.  Have you picked out a Halloween costume yet?  I'm going to a party on Saturday and I was thinking of getting this crazy costume that is me as a Biker Chick.  My husband could just wear his Harley jacket (he doesn't like to dress up so much).  My daughter is so embarrassed and doesn't want me to get it!  Should I embarrass her or not?  Hmmmmmmmmm, Debbie

leaves Wow!  I just did a workshop in Boyds Mill, PA.  (close to where they make HIghlights Magazine) and I've never seen trees so beautiful.  It was like God spilled a paint set on the trees.  Reds, Yellows, Oranges, Purples, Browns, and Greens-it was amazing.  I even got to go for some walks in the woods.  Imagine yourself totally alone in the woods-it's peaceful and just a tiny bit scary-in fact, I wouldn't recommend it for a kid.
Who knows what creatures lurk in those woods? jeepers
Perhaps a wolfman or maybe even a vampire teacher!!

Seriously, Vishi I'd love for Canadian kids to enter the postcard contest. Elizabeth, I hope your class enters too.  You could win a whole bunch of books, but just for entering you get at least one book!  Kevin!! it was great to hear from you again.  I hope third grade is going well.  (Did I ever tell you that I got in trouble alot for talking in third grade?  I thought my teacher was so mean.)

Ann and Harley, I love writing because you can make anything happen in a book-crazy things-ANYTHING!  Dalisha, I'm so glad you like my books.  You and Finnegan might like my new book for Christmas.  It's called Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas and it should be in your next Lucky book order form.  Do you get those from school?  Erica, I hope you enjoyed Angels Don't Know Karate.  I really liked the ending of that book.  Breidget, keep up the great reading!  Maud, thanks for the fun idea.  Centaurs would be cool to write about.

Jackie, check out this link to find out more about me. http://debbiedadey.com/Swamp/BookReport.php.

Talk to you next week.  Meanwhile stay cool and try not to get in trouble for talking in class!  Good luck, Debbie
