Hi Yemmi, the idea for my very first book came Vampires don't Wear Polka Dotsfrom a bad day.  My friend, Marcia Jones and I joked that if we were monster teachers all the kids in our classes would behave.  We thought it would be fun to write a story about a teacher who really was some sort of monster and that's where Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots came from!  Hope you'll like it.  Have a wonderful weekend, Debbie

Ogres Don't Hunt Easter EggsHi Jewel!  Lauren, I have to admit I'm not a big fan of slugs!  I am a big fan of Easter though and it's on its way!  Best, Debbie

Hi Lauren!  Your prologue can be how ever many pages you'd like it to be.  I am not a fan of prologues and perfer to start right with the action, but some people like them.  I think short is usually better for a prologue.  It depends on the style you are using and the size of print of the finished book, but I usually have three pages of typed manuscript that transfers to 3-4 pages of my Mermaid Tales books.  You might want to use this story elements chart to help.  Have fun writing, Debbie

Hi Avery, I begin by writing the very best story I can, then I send it to my editor who gives me suggestions for making it better.  This video gives you an idea of how the book is put together.
Today is Bailey School Kids Day!  Hope you celebrate by having some fun, Debbie

Dear Saina, I do make up my characters, but I get ideas for them from real people, even myself!  It takes different amounts of time to write different books.  For instance, Ghosts Don't Eat Potato Chips took two years, while Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots was mostly written in two weeks!  I think about what I want to happen first, second, and last when I write (even before I write).
Shalloniosnaffo, if you don't like your name you The Lost Princessmight want to think about a nickname.  Of course, I didn't like my name when I was a kid, but I like it now.
Lillian, I am writing book #15 in the Mermaid Tales series right now and I am having great fun.  Pearl and Kiki are really mad at each other!  You wouldn't believe what Pearl is doing!  I hope you enjoyed The Lost Princess and The Secret Sea Horse.
Jhaniyah, so glad you enjoy my books.  Do you have a favorite?  Declan, thanks for the fun idea!  Have a great weekend and God bless, Debbie
