Caitlin, I'm so glad you liked the Keyholders books.   Inside the MagicI think I'm a little bit like Penny.  When I was in elementary school I loved to race and only one kid (Billy) in my class could beat me.   My kids went to Bridge Valley and Shephardson Elementary schools in Fort Collins.  We really liked living there-it was hard to leave!  Have you been to the crazy metal zoo that they have there?  I think it's called The Swetsville Zoo.  The owner makes awesome animals out of scrap parts, very neat.  brb, Debbie

The Worst Name in Third Grade My grandmother really inspired me to write.  She kept a diary every day and I thought that was pretty cool.  Hayley, she was very special to me.  In fact, the Bailey School Kids books are named after my Grandmother Bailey.  But I also like to read, so I think that inspired me to want to write too.  In The Worst Name in Third Grade, Bridgett writes about what her perfect school would be like.  What would your perfect school be like?  Many blessings, Debbie

When I was a librarian, kids like to read about how vampires don't wear polka dotsmonsters movies were made.  In fact, the kids practically fought over this set of monster movie books.  This was in my mind and then  one day my teacher friend Marcia Jones and I had a bad day at our school.  The kids were goofing off and we joked that if we were monster teachers everyone would mind us.  DING!  A bell went off and we thought how fun it would be to write about a monster teacher.  Taft, that's how we came up with Mrs. Jeepers and the rest of the Bailey School Kids characters came next.   brb, Debbie

Wow Taft, you sound like an amazing reader and now Mrs. Jeepers' Scariest Halloween Everyou're becoming a writer too!  I think your Elvis idea is very funny!  Have fun with it.  You might like to check out these links to my book page.  They show all the numbered Bailey School Kids books, all the Super Specials and Holiday Specials, and the two spin-offs: Bailey City Monsters and Bailey City Junior Chapter books.  You might also enjoy Gnomes Don't Slurp Spaghetti, a short story on my site.  Maybe you'll find one that you haven't read.  Have fun!  Debbie

What would these guys be like in high school?      Bryson, thanks for your great idea.  It would be so much fun to write about the Bailey School Kids in High School.  I wonder if my editor will like the idea?
Guess what?  I volunteer at two places close to where I live.  One is called the Moland House.  Here's  a picture of me at a reenactment of when George Washington stayed there.  His Moland House Reenactmenteleven thousand troops camped nearby.  A reenactment is just an acting out of what life was like back in that time (1777).  My daughter and I wore long dresses that I made that were like what they wore back then.  Man, was I glad to chance into shorts afterwards!  I do find history very interesting.
Check out this cool opportunity to be a reporter for Scholastic (only if you are age 10-14).  Good luck!  ttyl, Debbie
