Dear Raquel, It was so sweet of you to ask your reading buddy what kind of books she likes. I hope she will enjoy The Lost Princess! You might even want to try one of these party ideas or something from this teaching unit, depending on her age. Have fun!
Amanda, my Grandma Bailey was very special to me. In fact, a series I wrote called the Bailey School Kids is named after her! I am looking forward to chatting with kids in Morristown today. Have a great day, Debbie
Dear Kimberly, Thank you for catching that in Dream of the Blue Turtle. I will doublecheck with my editor to make sure we have that corrected in future copies. You rock!
Amanda, please tell your grandmother I said hi and have a great WORLD READ ALOUD DAY, Debbie
Dear Sarah, Thanks for the great story about a new school. I love the name Mortimer! Hope you’ll check out my writing page.
Amanda, bookstores are super too! Madelyn, you guessed it. Babies can be stinky at times. Kimbely (or Kimberly), thank you for your fintastic ideas. Did you know I have written other books beside the Mermaid Tales? You can find all my books on my book page. By clicking on the series name, it will take you to all the books in that series. Here is a printable list. Maybe they have some of them at your school library. Stay well and don’t get the flu (wash your hands a lot), Debbie
Dear Madelyn, my next Mermaid Tales book is The Winter Princess. Pearl is selected to be the next princess for the Winter Festival, but something very little and stinky threatens to ruin the celebration. Can you guess what it is?
DJ, my grandmother always took Sunday off from her job of sewing for other people and it is part of my faith, so I like to follow her example.
Amanda, maybe whoever home schools you will consider taking you to the public library if there’s one close. It’s free and most have great programs. February is library lovers month! Have a great week, Debbie
Dear Raquel, I love your explaination for how mermaids and unicorns began. That was how myths were created.
DJ, I write every day except for the weekend. I don’t work on Sundays, although I sometimes do on Saturdays. Amanda, all your cats made me think of a story I used to read aloud when I was a librarian, called Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag. Maybe your school library has it in their picture books. Have a great day, Debbie
Dear Harmony, I am so glad you liked the Battle of the Best Friends. The boy band, The Rays, come back to help in The Polar Bear Express. Have a fintastic day, Debbie
Dear Madelyn, A Mermaid Tales TV show would be fun! Amanda, I always thought it would be neat to see the Great Wall of China, but right now I’d be happy to visit my kids (my two oldest live quite a distance away.) You can see some of the places I’ve visited here. In the picture here, I was in Greece. Where would you visit if you could go anywhere today? I am a bit like all the mermaids, but perhaps the most like Shelly. Who do you think you are like? Best, Debbie
Dear Emma and Devika, I’m thrilled that you like the Mermaid Tales books. Do you have a favorite? Guess what? There are mini videos, activities, and Mer-Style magazines on my Mermaid Tales page. Hope you have fun with it.
Amanda, I love your idea-especially when her friends help her to save the day. Maybe you’d like to write it yourself? Have a great Thursday, Debbie
Dear Amanda, Do you think Echo should meet a human? Sofia, I’m glad you like Shelly, Echo, and Kiki in the Mermaid Tales. Pearl can be a little difficult sometimes! I was really surprised when my editor wanted me to write about her. But I’ve come to understand that Pearl doesn’t plan on being mean-usually she is misunderstood or doesn’t know better. Someday I hope she’ll be as nice as Shelly, Echo, and Kiki! You can find out a bit more about them here. Have a blessed day, Debbie
Dear DJ, I’m glad Rocky makes you laugh sometimes. My favorite story with Rocky in it is Fairy Chase. I love the part about his mother.
Madelyn, I use a computer mostly, although sometimes I write by hand. My first books were typed on a typewriter-like-word-processing machine (kind of a cross between a computer and a typewriter). Amanda, I do all three! I go to the library, buy books at bookstores and buy them online. I know what you mean about having my own. I love to reread my favorites! Have a blessed week, Debbie
