Dear Daniella and Maya, I have sold 168 stories to be made into books. My first book, Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots, came out in 1990. My newest book is Fairy Chase. A new collection of the Mermaid Tales books just came out though. It is called the Sea-tacular Collection. It has the first 10 Mermaid Tales in it! I love to read and I think that’s what made me want to write stories. Have a super sea-tacular week! Your friend, Debbie
Dear Suzy, I hope you had fun on your Spring Break. Leyna and Lydia, I was a teacher for many years. I taught first grade. I like both cats and dogs, but my oldest son is allergic to cats so we never had one. Some of my books have cats in them though. Marcia Jones and I wrote the Keyholder series and it has a magical cat in it. Best, Debbie
Dear Navya, Thanks for your awesome ideas for Mermaid Tales. Would you like to submit a short story or article for a MerStyles magazine? You can find them on my Mermaid Tales page. Here’s the most recent one. Anna and Abbie sent in cool stuff for that one. If you write or draw something, you can send it to me here with a parent or guardian’s written permission. They can contact me regarding the best way to send it.
Makenzie, I am making another Mermaid Tales book right now! Please tell Emily I said hello! Have a super awesome, fintastic blessed day, Debbie
Hi Makenzie, I’m so happy you are enjoying my stories. It is fun to write! Nina Lee, I’m not sure what you are asking. Do you want a book that has the word phenomenon in it? Annie Oakley and Will Rogers were considered phenomenons in their time. I wrote books about both of them.
Leyna and Lydia, my dogs are Carmen and Shadow. Carmen just had stitches taken out this morning. Have a great Tuesday, Debbie
Dear Pernilla, Wow, you are an amazing reader! Here is a list of all my books (you can click on the series name to see the books in that series). What is your favorite series of mine? Lila, I got to meet a real live Kiki last month! You learn more about the Kiki in the Mermaid Tales here.
Leyna, I hope you are enjoying Dracula Doesn’t Drink Lemonade. My mom made the best lemonade ever! Yes, Lydia, I have two dogs. You can see their picture below. Have a fintastic week, Debbie
Thanks Leyna! Happy reading, Debbie
Dear Hayzlee, I have two dogs. Their names are Carmen and Shadow. Can you guess which is which? I am married and now live in Tennessee. I still love to write! In fact, I am writing a new Mermaid Tales book. Makenzie and Mia, I am so happy you enjoy my books. Do you have a favorite? Mia, here is a silly video that shows a bit about how I make my stories. You can also find out more on my writing page. Have a super wonderful Wednesday, Debbie
Dear Afina and Sawyer, I’m so glad you like the Mermaid Tales books. I really like the pictures too. The illustrator is Tatevik Avakyan. She lives in California. Afina, I like your new word-mermaidlicous! Sawyer, the next Mermaid Tales to come out is The Narwhal Problem. Is is #19 in the series. It comes out in June, but can be pre-ordered now at your favorite bookstore or online. Guess what? I just signed a contract to write #21 and #22!
Hi Mateo. Hope everyone has an awesome, blessed week, Debbie
Dear Suzy, My favorite books when I was growing up were Cherry Ames, Student Nurse and a book about Helen Keller when she was young. Lindsey, Heather, and Penelope, my advice is to just enjoy your second grade life. Florence, I’d love to answer any book questions you might have.
Dear Dani, My friend, Donna Gephart, wrote a lovely story called Lily and Dunkin that you might like to read. Heather, the person you need to talk to is your dad. Best, Debbie
