Dear DJ, Thanks for visiting debbiedadey.com. Did you know my real name is Debra too? Raquel, I get ideas for stories from everywhere. For instance, I once saw a live reindeer at a Christmas tree farm. It was covered with a striped blanket. That led to Reindeer Do Wear Striped Underwear! Amanda, I’m excited to hear that kids are busy reading my books. What ocean creature should I write about next? Have a great day, Debbie

Dear Quincey, I’m so happy you enjoy the Mermaid Tales stories. Do you have a favorite one about Shelly? I read every night before I go to bed too! Sometimes I fall asleep while I’m reading. There are parts of the ocean that haven’t been explored. Do you think there could be mermaids there?
Ella, here’s a sneak peek from the first Mini Mermaid Tales book manuscript. It may change with revisions. It is part of the first chapter. Let me know what you think.
Rocky backed away and held up his hands like she had penguin pox. Didn’t he like hugging? Rosie loved hugging. It was one of her favorite things, along with singing and moving her tail. And playing school.

Dear Ella, I just sent the manuscripts to my editor yesterday to see if she likes the first two so I can’t share anything yet. Take care, Debbie

Dear Ella, I’m doing as well as I can. Reading is helping me through these difficult times. Writing is helpful as well. I shared your writing program on my December newsletter, so thanks for telling me about it. Do you celebrate a holiday this month? Stay safe and wear a mask, Debbie

Dear Ella, The Mini Mermaid Tales will still be chapter books, just easier than the Mermaid Tales books. They will be harder than the I Can Read books. Have a good weekend, Debbie

Dear Ella, I changed the name of my character in the Mini Mermaid Tales book from Algae to Aqua. I’m hoping my agent and editor will like the change! Unfortunately that book doesn’t come out until the summer of 2022! Best, Debbie

Dear Ella, Thanks for telling me about the Written out Loud class. It looks interesting. Dragons are fun to write about aren’t they? I’ve written a few dragon stories with my friend, Marcia Jones. Dragons Don’t Cook Pizza was the first, but then we wrote a series called The Keyholders that had a young dragon named Dracula. Then we wrote Dragons Don’t Throw Snowballs. Wow, I guess I do like dragons! Have fun with your dragon story, Debbie

Dear Ella, I never learned to knit or crochet, but I did do needle work when I was a kid. I made several cross stich pictures.
You might like for this to be a holiday gift. Stay warm (it snowed here yesterday!) Best, Debbie

Dear Ella, I think it would be cool to make a blanket this year. When you are old and gray you can tell people you started it the year of the pandemic! My mother gave me a quilt that was made by one of my ancestors before the Civil War. Here are pictures of my other quilts. Stay safe and well, Debbie
