Dear Olivia, I’m so glad you like Kiki from the Mermaid Tales books. Did you know there are 20 books in the series? Your mom and dad sound fabulous! Tell them I said hi! Happy reading, Debbie
Dear Tallulah, How fun is it that you’re having mermaid dreams? I find that I sometimes dream about whatever it was I was thinking about when I fell asleep. Have you ever thought of writing your dreams down? Have a fin-tastic day amd God bless, Debbie
Dear Alison and Lizy, I like mermaids too! Do you have a favorite Mermaid Tales? What I like most about Shelly is that she can like sports AND be a princess too (and she’s nice). What I like most about Kiki is that she likes books, faces her fears and is nice. Hope you have a super great weekend. God bless, Debbie
Dear Alaina, I do like to write. Mostly it is fun, but sometimes it is hard when I have to change the story to make it better. Do you like to write? Hope you’ll heck out my writing page. The Winter Princess is my newest book.
Ella L., mostly I like to read fiction, but I do like learning new facts from non-fiction. What about you? Have a super day, Debbie
Dear Ella L, Actually the first three books in the Mini Mermaid Tales series come out next year. It’s hard to wait! My historical fiction picture book biographies are a mix of make-believe and non-fiction. The fiction part is based on what we know, but there is a section in the back that tells the whole truth. Shooting Star is one and Will Rogers, Larger Than Life is another. It was fun to learn about both of those real-life characters. I am actually working on another picture book biography right now! Have a great week and God bless, Debbie
Dear Ella L., I will check out Canva. Maybe I could make a new Mermaid Tales poster. What is your favorite subject at school? I liked reading and history the best. I’ve even written some historical picture books and novels. Have a great week, Debbie
Dear Ella L, I have two new books coming out this year, Sleepover at the Haunted Museum and Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots graphic novel.
I won’t have pictures of Aqua for quite a while. Stay safe and wear a mask. Your friend, Debbie
Dear Ella L, Here’s a little snippet from Aqua’s story:
“W-w-what are you doing?” Morgan swam into their back yard. Sometimes her older sister had trouble with her words.
“I’m thinking about riding a dolphin,” Aqua said.
“N-no wavy way!” Morgan told her. “You might get hurt.”
Keep in mind that it might change! Your ideas are great. Kiki and Aqua will end up being great mer-friends I think. Have a fintastic weekend, Debbie
Dear Ella, My hair is ombre right now, but not on purpose. I haven’t had hightlights in my hair or had my hair cut professionally in almost a year because of the pandemic! I have finished working on Aqua’s story, unless my editor wants me to rewrite it. I’m not sure exactly what she’ll look like yet, but she’ll probably look a bit like her sister, Morgan, and Aqua will be small for her age. Have a wonderful day and God bless, Debbie
Dear Leah M, I am not an illustrator. I write the words. Right now I am working on two books.
Fanta, the first thing to do to write a story is to come up with an idea. To get an idea you can brainstorm about things that you like, hate, or really enjoy. Let me know when you’ve come up with an idea.
Kenneth, Marcia and I were teachers at the same school. I hoe you liked Dracula Doesn’t Drink Lemonade. Ryleigh, writing is my full-time job. I used to be a teacher and then a school librarian. Jonah, I like funny books too.
Ella L., the illustrator will get to decide for sure about Aqua’s tail, but I was thinking ombre. We don’t usually get much snow, so we had a surprise! Adeline, wow! You must be a really good reader. I hope you enjoy Mermaid Tales #15. Have a great World Read Aloud Day, Debbie
