Dear Autumn, What do you think a mermaid’s voice sounds like? I’ve always wondered.
Lily, I live in the Smoky Mountain area of Tennessee. I meet kids virtually (usually through Zoom) through their schools by doing author visits or read-alouds. My next free read-aloud is May 7th. Ask your teacher if they’d be interested in having me read aloud to your class. If you homeschool with a parent, I could still do it. An adult would need to contact me about it here. Have you considered a virtual book club-maybe with other homeschoolers? For the Haunted Ship Writing contest, feel free to write about anything. There does need to be something about a haunted ship in the story though. You could even make it silly! Good luck with it, Debbie

Dear Kayla M., Happy St. Patrick’s Day! It’s so cool that you started a book club. Have you check out this memaid book club page? Have fun at school!
Lily, I love to read too. Congrats on your story! There is no entry fee for the Haunted Ship Writing Contest. On April 1st, my webmaster has promised to add how to enter online. Right now, have fun brainstorming ideas and writing. The Crook and the Crown is a mystery and the next book, Sleepover at the Haunted Museum, is also a mystery. It takes different amounts of time to write a book, depending on the book. One took me eight years! Have a super awesome day, Debbie

Dear Addison, I was 27-years-old when I wrote my first book. Kashvi and Saphira, I enjoy reading so much I wanted to try writing my own stories. Saphira, you might want to check out my writing page. Madison, I’m sorry you didn’t get to see my virtual visit. If it’s allowed, check out my YouTube videos. You are cool too! Blaze, each book takes a different amount of time to edit (one took me 8 years!) Aubree, the next Bailey School Kids graphic novel will be Frankenstein Doesn’t Plant Petunias. Here’s the non-graphic version.
A big hello to Avyn, Connor, Gannon, Haley, and Anderson. Harper, I am making a new book about the scientist who paved the way for the Covid-19 vaccine today. Gracie, I love reading too! Lila, I do like to write. I’ve been doing it for about thirty years!
Alexis, I am getting my first Covid-19 vaccine shot today. I am happy about that. Kacie, ask your librarian to order more of my books, check them out at your local bookstore or ask an adult to order them online. Jadyn, Dmitri, and Camden-it is hard to pick one favorite, but this time of the year I think Leprechauns Don’t Play Basketball is a favorite. Levi, I usually write every day except the weekends. Cooper, I haven’t gone out to eat in a long time! My favorite place to eat is on a picnic. Where is yours? Have a super awesome day, wear a mask, and live long and prosper, Debbie
