Dear Saryn, You must have taken the Which Mermaid am I? quiz on the Mermaid Tales activity page. I am a mix of all of them I think! Even though I know there are probably not real mermaids, there is little part of me that thinks it would be really cool if there were! Maybe at the very bottom of the sea?
Lily, I like your cool abbreviations, especially ^ wtih happy. Good luck with all your soccer games and have fun!
Ella L., here is a link to how to do my writing contest. It’s over at the end of this month. I hope you’ll give it a try. Maybe you can have sea dragons in the story! The prizes will be split between grades 1-2 and 3 and 4. So far, the only entries have been in first and second grades! I hope you’ll give it try, Debbie

Dear Lily, I like many sports. I was playing tennis a lot before the pandemic and I look forward to playing that again. My kids played a lot of soccer when they were growing up. It was fun watching them. When I was growing up, I played a lot of basketball because there wasn’t soccer where I lived! What is your favorite sport?
I am writing a picture book biography right now. I am having fun learning about a person who is alive. Harriet Tubman lived a long time ago, but wasn’t she an amazing person? I hope you’ll try out my writing contest. Your story about a ship can be one or two pages or more! Let me know if you have any questions about it. So far no one has entered, so would be a winner if you enter if no one else does! The prizes will be a book of mine and a choice of any book. Happy writing, Debbie

Dear Ella L., I like sea dragons too. Maybe I should write a story about them! Maybe they could be like the Secret Sea Horse where they are bigger than in real life. That could be fun! God bless, Debbie

Dear Shelby, I am an author. Click here to see the books I’ve written. Lily, when I was in school we always finished in May. I hope you have a great summer!
Ella, your sketches must have been great. Did you know there’s a real creature called a sea dragon? Lilian F., I have cut my hair twice during the pandemic. But I am not good at it! Hurrah to you for doing a super job. Everyone stay safe and wear a mask in public. Your friend, Debbie

Dear Brenton from Australia, Of course I remember you! How great is it to hear from you here again. One of these days I want to get to Australia. What kind of stories do you like to write now?
Lily, I was close in my guess of your middle name! I usually take the weekends for hobbies, family time, and housework. Sometimes I get to answer questions from here, so surprise! Feel free to ask me whenever you have a question and I’ll answer it as soon as I can.
Ella, first I need to finish another story so I can write my new dragon one! Hope you are having a great weekend. Did you know your co-authors before you began writing together? Your friend, Debbie

Dear Ella L., You guys did a great job. I still haven’t written my new dragon story yet, so you are way ahead of me! But you know I like dragons since I wrote the Keyholder series, Dragons Don’t Cook Pizza, Dragons Don’t Throw Snowballs, and Dragons DO Eat Homework with Marcia T. Jones. I hope you’ll try my writing contest this month. Happy writing, Debbie

Dear Alice, I have every book I’ve written in boxes on the top of three bookshelves in my office. I also have pictures, other author’s books, and reference books. The Mermaid Tales books are actually in a basket. I keep some extra copies right beside my desk. You can see part of my shelves in my April newsletter. What do you have on your bookshelves?
Lily, since my grandmother was named Lilly, I am going to guess your middle name is the same as her’s. Is it May? If you want send me a story, here’s an easy way to do it. Write a story about a haunted ship and then email it to me here (all the rules are there as well for the contest). Happy writing, Debbie
