Dear Kayla, It’s great to hear from you. Unfortunately it looks like the Mermaid Minis won’t come up until 2023! ARGH! Hope you are having a great December. Stay warm and safe, Debbie
Dear Cam, I’m sorry your friend said that. Even if he was kidding words like that are still hurtful. Have you asked him why he said that? Hope today is better. Your friend, Debbie
Hi Charlotte, It’s great to hear from you. We are having some warm weather for a few days where I live so I hope to get outside and enjoy it a bit. I’ve been working on two stories (but surprisingly neither one has a monster in it!) so that’s kept me busy. What are you up to? Best, Debbie
Dear Lily, I am curious. Did you read the Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots graphic novel or the chapter book? The graphic novel has fewer words than the chapter book. Did you know that when Marcia Thornton Jones and I originally wrote Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots we did tell what happened to Eddie in the hallway? Our editor asked us to change the ending. Hope you have a great week and a happy Thanksgiving, Debbi
Dear Lisa, Sometimes it’s best just to ignore people when they try to upset you. For some reason they feel the need to make themselves feel bigger by belittling others. Best, Debbie
Dear Landyn, I’m so glad you are enjoying my books. Do you have a favorite? I do enjoy being a writer. My favorite part is making up stuff!
Xavier, I wasn’t inspired by a movie to write a book, but I am excited that the Bailey School Kids series is in the works to be a live-action TV series.
Violet, I co-wrote a mermaid book a while ago called Mermaids Don’t Run Track. I enjoyed it so much, I thought it would be fun to write more so when an editor asked me to write a new series I was happy to make it about mermaids. Did you know there are 21 Mermaid Tales books now? Sleepover at the Haunted Museum is the newest one. Thanks for writing and have a great day, Debbie
Dear Claire, It’s probably best to just stay out of it. Best, Debbie
Dear Addy O., I really like to read a lot-so I thought it would be awesome if someone read something that I wrote! Gracie, I love that you are enjoying my books, particularly Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots (my first book!) Did you read the chapter book or the graphic novel?
Charlotte, thanks so much for the idea! Stormy, strawberries are my favorite food. What is yours? Abby S., I actually didn’t know how to type until I was in high school!
Chase and Olivia, I do like being an author, although sometimes it is hard. Oliver K., I never thought about Mrs. Jeepers’ house being like the Adams Family House, but maybe I had it in my mind because I watched that show when I was a kid. I hope you all have a great week. Your friend, Debbie
P.S. Here’s a sneak peek at the next Bailey School Kids graphic novel.
Dear Chase, I think it’s cool that you make graphic novels and stories. Marcia and I had a lot of fun helping with the Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots graphic novel and the upcoming Frankenstein Doesn’t Plant Petunias graphic novel. I wonder if you might like to try out Drawing with Mrs. Zork.
Hi Olivia, it is fun being an author, but I must admit it is sometimes hard! I think everything is probably that way. Have a super fabulous day, Debbie
Dear Kayla, I am so proud of you for your dedication to helping the ocean and ocean creatures. Did you know that plastic is the worst threat to our oceans? It is important that we try to limit our use of single-use plastics (like disposable plastic straws) and recycle whenever we can. Fish are still an important food source for the world, but it’s good to know which ones are in danger and avoid them. Guides like this one can be helpful. Because of your letter I nominate you for Mermaid Queen this month! Your friend, Debbie
