Dear Surina, I like writing and fairy tales too! I think the best strategy for vocabulary is to write as you would normally speak. If you are writing for a younger age, replace more difficult words with easier ones. I hope you’ll take a peek at my writing page. I am not sure which Mermaid Tales book you were reading. Did you know there are 19 now! The newest is The Narwhal Problem where Kiki wants to make friends with a narwhal! Have a great day. Your friend, Debbie

Dear Avril, I love believing in mermaids! Did you know that there are 19 Mermaid Tales books in all? Krinjal, you are way ahead of me. I didn’t start writing books until I was 29! Odgen, your dragon sounds super fun. I hope you’ll write a story about what it does.
Abigail, I am curious. You said you read my fourth book. Was it my fourth book that I wrote ever (Leprechauns Don’t Play Basketball that I wrote with Marcia Jones), or the fourth book in my Mermaid Tales series (Danger in the Deep Blue Sea)?
Hope you have a safe and happy Fourth of July, Debbie

Dear Quincey, You must be an amazing listener! Please tell your mom and baby sister I said hello. Hope you’ll enjoy this coloring page. When my daughter was your age we used to have fun tea parties. Maybe you’d like to give it a try. God bless, Debbie

Dear Hadley, Thanks for your kind words. They mean a lot. Aria, believe it or not most of my characters are based on a part of me. For instance, Shelly and Melody like sports-so do I! Kiki likes to read-so did I! Echo likes to dance-so do I! Shelly likes pretty things-so do I! So one way to come up with character is to simply take a part of yourself (something you like to do) and build a character around it. Another way is to use a character chart like this one, found on my writing page.
Unfocused writer, I write mostly on a computer as well! I think it is good to be balanced. I suggest you keep writing, but also make plenty of time to play too! Have a great summer, Debbie

Dear Krinjal, I agree that the illustrator, Tatevik Avakyan, keeps making the covers cuter and cuter! Check out my narwhal summer reading brochure for more narwhal and code fun. Happy reading, Debbie

Dear Krinjal, Hurrah!!! Today is the release day of THE NARWHAL PROBLEM!! I hope you’ll like it! I’m pretty excited about it. Kiki wants to be a visiting narwhal’s buddy, but first she has to do something impossible!
I love your new creature, merfairies. Your series sounds fun too! Did you know my last book was called Fairy Chase? This summer you might want to check out my writing page. Good luck with your story, Debbie

Dear Kimberly, What a fun idea! I wonder what Echo would think of Shelly and Rocky falling in love? (Did you know Echo has a crush on Rocky?) Did you know that Echo hurts her tail in Twist and Shout? I hope you’ll enjoy reading that story. Let me know what you think. Your friend, Debbie
